Dear members of the Somali National University community,

As we embark on the 2026-2027 academic year, I am filled with pride at what this university has achieved and deep optimism about what lies ahead. SNU is no longer simply a recovering institution – it is a growing force in the intellectual and professional development of our nation.

This year, we welcome our largest ever freshman class: 4,100 new students across all faculties. We open two new teaching facilities. We launch our Faculty of Engineering. And we deepen partnerships with UNESCO, African Union institutions, and universities across the world.

Our Four Priorities

Four institutional priorities guide 2026-2027: enhancing research output, strengthening teaching quality, improving student welfare services, and expanding community engagement. Implementation plans for each priority have been shared with all deans and department heads.

A Call to Every Member of Our Community

To our students: honour the sacrifices that brought you here by giving this institution your best effort every single day. To our faculty and staff: your dedication is what makes SNU work, and the university is equally committed to supporting your professional growth. To our partners: thank you. Somalia’s future is being built within these walls, and you are part of that construction.

With confidence and pride,
Prof. Abdirahman Isse Awale
Vice Chancellor, Somali National University
